bulletRegarding Chrome Re-plating: Marc and Margie Connelly '93 1500 Aspencade-Black of course- Lake George NY =20 I have done several restorations of different sorts. If the part was available new it was all ways less expensive to buy it. = If it wasn't then re-plating was the only alternative. With the large availability of parts for Gold Wings I would think = replacing would be the way to go. Also The wait to get your part back has been a long one in most of my cases. Marc
bulletCleaning the engine oil screen-
Drain the oil. Remove the right head pipe. Loosen the bottom engine mounting bolt next to the oil screen cover. Remove the four oil screen cover securing screws. Use an offset screwdriver or a chisel to remove the front oil screen cover securing screw. (unscrew it, don't chisel it off!) Flex the frame next to the lower mounting bolt (about 2mm) to facilitate removal of the front oil screen cover securing screw. Remove cover, screen. slowly pour 1 qt of clean oil into the fill to flush any particles from clutch towards the screen. Reach in and scoop out any loose particles. reverse for reassembly replace front oil screen cover screw with a hex head bolt about 3mm shorter than the original to facilitate removal next time. Retorque the lower engine mounting bolt to 55-650 kg-cm or 40-47 ft-lb US, But not imperial. make sure everything is back on. (torque oil filter bolt to 270-220 kg-cm, drain plug to 350-400 kg-cm) fill up the engine with new oil. (3L of Honda 4-stroke oil or API SE, SAE 10W-40 or 20W-50) Run for 5 min. (The engine, not you) redo everything 1 more time, changing the oil filter.
bulletCruise control
Sorry I didn't keep all the individuals who contacted me for these instructions so I'll use the list, sorry list. Here's how I mounted an automotive electronic cruise control to a 77+ GL1000. I haven't put these instructions on my web page because I'm waiting for either a purchase of a digital camera or someone who owns one who would take pix for me of my bike at the various stages of installation (or at least how I did it). Items needed (not including tools): - electronic cruise control, I bought the dash mount control but a turn signal mount should also work. - 1-1/2 dia PVC pipe, 6 inch length - end caps for 1-1/2 dia PVC pipe (2) - one way valve, must fit vacuum tube - "T", must fit vacuum tube - pipe thread to vacuum tube fitting adapter - 5mm carb synch tube/screw Actuator and throttle cable attachment: Remove the faux tank. Mount the actuator on the back-right side of the radiator cowling, cable up. Route the cable along the front side of the air cleaner then follow the throttle cables on the left side of the air cleaner to the carbs. Attach the throttle cable to the linkage operating the right side carbs, there wasn't enough room to attach the cable where the other throttle cables attach. Attach the throttle bracket to the left side frame. Vacuum connection: Replace the 5mm screw in the right front (#2?) manifold with the carb synch tube/screw. Attach the vacuum tube to the 5mm screw, may need hose clamp. Measure and cut vacuum tube to length and attach to actuator. Glue both endcaps onto the PVC pipe. Drill and tap one of the endcaps for the pipe thread to vacuum tube adapter. Screw the pipe thread to vacuum tube adapter into the tapped hole. Mount PVC pipe to frame next to actuator, adapter down, with cable ties. Attach excess length of vacuum tube to PVC adapter. Cut manifold to actuator vacuum tube where excess tube crosses and install "T". Cut excess vacuum tube at "T" and attach. Cut manifold to "T" vacuum tube and install one way valve. Speed sensor connection: The cruise control I purchased did not need an separate speed sensor, all sensing is done at the right side coil. Command module mounting: Mount command module on the left handle, where ever is comfortable. Electrical connections: Power wire is connected to the black wire. Ground wire is connected to the frame ground just in front of the coils. Brake wires are connected to Green with Yellow stripe wire just outside the connector to the Resistor assembly, and to the White with Green stripe wire near Buzzer. Outside of testing that is the complete installation for the unit I purchased. Units you purchase should be similar.
