Old Lewiston Grade

The old way up and down the hill from the Palouse to the cities of Lewiston and Clarkston. The two lane road is roughly 7 miles long and has 1500 feet of elevation change. It has many combination, increasing / decreasing radius, and banked corners. Dirty in the winter, awesome in the summer. Packwood Cutoff (FS 52)

Paved Forest Service Road from Packwood to Ashford.

North Cascade Hwy / Mountain Loop

State Road 20 from Burlington to Winthrop, 135 miles. Open only in the summer this route covers forested valleys, glacial lakes, twisty mountain roads and awesome vista's. Speeds range from 25 to 60, with more of the later. The highest point along this route is Washington Pass at 5177 ft.

Allow 2.5 to 4 hours depending on how many vista's and photo op's you stop for. Road condition can vary greatly depending on the amount of winter damage from slides. Be sure to check out Wintrop, a western town, Washington Pass overlook, Diablo Lake overlook, and the visitor’s center near Newhalem. Washington State Road 2 from Monroe to Levenworth. 80 miles of two-lane mountain road with great scenery and sweeping curves. 1.5 hours average drive time. Makes a good continuation of the SR 20 route. Be sure to check out Deception Falls (west side of pass) and Levenworth, a quaint bavarian village with interesting architecture and shopping.
