READ ABOUT MY ONGOING FIGHT WITH CANCER Hello, by now you probably know my name is John Bunton and I ride motorcycles, do custom artwork and photography, love dogs, watching movies, reading and writing. I've been riding motorcycles since I was six and GoldWings since I was 14 until 2004 when I changed to my current bike, a Yamaha FZ1 and subsequently sold the beloved GL-1500 I owned as it begin to languish in the garage. The object of this page and it's sub-pages is to share my Personal stories, talk about motorcycles and bikes I'm interested in, and to display various pictures and details about myself and my family history that would normally fill most home pages. Since I'm
trying to make this web site more technical and useful I decided to make a
separate areas for these "cool" bits of personal information that most people
could probably care less about. So if people read this I can reasonably
assume that
they are either If you want to see more of my personal "bike related" information click HERE to jump to the bottom of this page where that information is discussed, the links above also be reached from there for the most part. To read more about my dogs and Rocky's "advice to the paw-torn" click here. To learn more about the person read on and try and keep an open mind: I was born in Ft. Riley Kansas to James Doyle Bunton and Johnnie O. Shytles Bunton - at the time my father had not been saved and was out drinking while my mother had a very tough time with my delivery and experienced an "out of body experience" while giving birth to me. I got my first Motorcycle ride when I was four, setting in front of my father as he idled his Yamaha or Honda (we're undecided which it was at the time) around the base at night so the MP's wouldn't bust him. My Father was a drill instructor in the Army and retired after 22 years, he is also a Pentecostal minister. This made an interesting childhood for me. I like to tease that mornings normally started with a resounding "You will get on your knees and pray boy; NOW!" but in reality my parents were great and even though my Mom was a RN and hated motorcycles she allowed me to get a mini-bike then a dirt bike starting at age six and since from about age eight on we were in the country I got to ride every day to feed the animals and just play. I've had an extremely interesting life, I've spoken in tongues, and not like the (IMO) fake "Rev" Tilton. I've seen a possessed women frighten and overpower three grown men and witnessed both a dead man brought back to life via prayer and a cat talk to me and my father. I also had a short story published about the cat experience, and won a prize from Midwestern state university for that short story. I've saved my father from burning, lived through numerous near misses and a "crush" accident where a car I was working on fell on me, survived bariatric surgery and lost over 100 lbs, curing my diabetes, and now am fighting liver cancer from a colo-rectal metastasis! My sister and I also shared some psychic experiences when we were young and I still have occasional bouts of clairvoyance which are often disconcerting and always unsettling. The closest I've ever seen this portrayed was the X-Files episode (Clyde Bruckman's Final Repose) about the insurance salesman - THAT is how it works, almost like a memory you know you shouldn't have or recalling a vivid story you never remember reading. You don't control it but at the time when it happens you're sure, moments later you begin to doubt it yourself even unless it's reinforced by outside confirmation which HAS happened to me. Perhaps the hardest to believe of all these is when my father and I had a kitten talk to us once - truth be told it scared us to death! I later won a short-story award about this experience when my story was published by MSU (Midwestern State University) in 1985. Throughout my life I've worked as everything from a mechanic and carpenter to
a Engineering Technician and most recently a Microsoft Employee. I also recently
obtained my MCSA and MCSE to add to my AASE ... lots of letters I care little
about (G) in case I beat the cancer I am currently studying for my
Bachelors with a B+ average so far but am hiatus until we see how the latest
round of chemo goes (Jan 2006) .. During my
life I've
owned 20 and ridden about 50 different types of motorcycles and enjoyed them
all. I don't particularly dislike Harley's but I don't own one due to cost
and technologies, although I'm very interested in a Buell and the new V-Rod - my dad had several
Harley Davidson's during my childhood and I got to ride them so I DO understand the
attraction some have, it's just not the bike for me. As you can see from the picture of me at the right I am also one of those "weird" sci-fi / Star Trek fans and belong to one of the best clubs in the USA, the USS Joshua an Irving Texas based sci-fi fan club. I've been into Mask Making (prosthetics) and even had some of my work in the TV-Guide from when the Joshua worked the "Captain's Gala" event here in Dallas to raise funds for charity. We brought in Michael O'Hare for aids awareness, presented checks to Patrick Stewart for a scholarship in his name etc. - we even put on plays and video parodies. Loads of fun, be sure and check out our web site. I have been riding on my own since I was seven years old, with one six-year period where I didn't own a bike. I ride pretty much everyday, with exceptions when there is snow and / or ice on the ground or if necessity demands I take my truck. Over my lifetime I've averaged about 10,000 (K) a year, but since 1996 it's been more like 21K. As of 3/1/2001 counting the six years when I first moved to Dallas and didn't ride at all that comes to over 200K I've ridden on various bikes. Much of that (110K or so) has been on various Honda Gold Wings. If I had more time off it would be MUCH more than that I assure you! I could go on and on but let me leave off with my philosophy on life, a bastardization from Shakespeare's plays "Be true to yourself. So long as you look yourself in the eye every morning and like who and what you see you're doing okay." The bard had a father say it in this manner to his son who was about to go off on his own into the world: "To thine own self be true, and it must needs follow as the night unto the day that thou canst be false to no man." It's great being here, I thank God for the opportunity to enjoy this wonderful gift called life. See ya! Common Q&A, click the title to see more:
